waste management

The project is supported by GiZ and the project duration is till 30th June 2023.

During COVID 19 pandemic, the much-neglected area of healthcare waste management and water sanitation and hygiene became essential for safe service delivery in emergency for COVID case management. GIZ-S2HSP assisted the MOHP in developing HCWM related policy, strategic plan, guidelines, standards and learning resource packages, such as the National Healthcare Waste Management Standards and Operating Procedure 2020, Learning resource package on HCWM, WASH and Environmental Health together with WHO and National Health Training Center (NHTC), Handbook on Environmental Health, HCWM and WASH etc.

The current phase of GIZ -S2HSS aims to consolidate the HCWM support by strengthening the capacities of 13 hospitals in five provinces to adhere to healthcare waste management national standards and operating procedures and set an example for other public hospitals in Nepal.

The objective is to strengthen the capacities of the selected hospitals to comply with the national healthcare waste management standard and operating procedures and assist in establishing good HCWM practices/ model ward at hospital level at selected 9 hospitals with specified on two different lots due to geographical condition and to complete the assignment in the limited project time period. This will also help to mitigate the effect of
unwanted movement restrictions in project progress during COVID 19.
