Entrepreneurial Capacity assessment of IWW’s Non-Profit Enterprise members
Introduction to Green Path Nepal:
Green Path Nepal (GPN) was established for the environment protection, climate change and natural resource conservation with right based approach to the community people as well as policy makers, development workers and civil society. GPN has long experience in designing, developing and implementing the programs on waste management, natural resource management, environmental conservation, energy, water and sanitation, climate change adaptation and disaster risk management. GPN strives to successfully assist people, organization’s, systems and processes in Nepal and works closely with national entities to positively contribute to the promotion of the better health and environmental status and the empowerment of communities in Nepal.
Background of the project:
Project Title: Healthy Waste Workers for Sustainable Waste Management
Project Description:
The project “Healthy Waste Workers for Sustainable Management” is being implemented in collaboration with KMC, technical and financial support from Medecins Du Monde- France (MDM-F) and Green Path Nepal (GPN) and Samyukta Safai Jagaran (Sasaja) as nationl implementing partners. The project goal is to create positive impact for improving health, wellbeing and livelihood of informal waste workers (IWWs) in Kathmandu valley and Sisdole landfill site. The project sights to reinforce the capacities of leaders of IWWs for the establishment and operation of nonprofit enterprises for poverty reduction, upliftment of self-confidence and develop social recognition of the IWWs among the community. To achieve the project goal and objective, the project has the following three outcomes:
Outcome 1: Formalization of IWWs through non-profit enterprises and increasing their recognition in integrated solid waste management in urban cities.
Outcome 2: Increase risk mitigation and promotion of decent safe work opportunities in current activities and through innovation
Outcome 3: Increase access to quality health services for IWWs and the community through promotion of Urban Health Promotion Center
Among these three outcomes, GPN is primarily responsible to carry out Outcome 2 through execution of the following outputs;
- Output 2.1 All IWWs non-profit enterprises participate in local and regional platforms involving public and private partners for policy dialogue and access to rights
- Output 2.2 Innovative economic opportunities contributing to risk mitigation and environmental exposure are initiated by IWWs non-profit enterprise and associated partners through capacity building of IWWs on entrepreneurial and basic financial skills
- Output 2.3 Capacity building of IWWs regarding OSH and its activities implementation
Among the various activities planned to execute the outputs, Entrepreneurial Capacity Assessment is one of the key activities in execution of Outcome 2.2. This activity is designed to assess the entrepreneurial capacity of IWWs non-profit enterprises members. The assessment will determine various dimensions of entrepreneurial capacities among non-profit enterprises members such as passion and self-achievement, integrity and commitment, leadership and management, active learning and analysis. It will identify the capacity of members to sense, select and shape opportunities with optimal use of resources. It will also determine their strategic, marketing, networking and innovation competencies. The results and recommendations from the assessment report will help project team to develop an action plan to enhance entrepreneurial competencies of IWWs non-profit enterprises members and to define the topics for the trainings.
The deliverables expected from the consultant are:
- Review the HWW4SWM project details for a Non-Profit Enterprise (NPE), and prepare specific training need/area for the Business Development Officers (BDOs).
- Prepare a Training inventory for the BDOs and deliver to develop capacity of project staffs in the field of entrepreneurship development and business management sector.
- Help the GPN team to develop the Entrepreneurship Capacity Assessment tools for the project beneficiaries i.e., Informal Waste Workers (IWWs).
- Support GPN team to carry out Entrepreneurship Capacity Assessment among the 300 project beneficiaries (IWWs).
- Prepare the Entrepreneurship Capacity Assessment analysis report including:
- Gap in the existing Entrepreneurship Capacity of the IWWs.
- Entrepreneurship Capacity Development needs of IWWs.
- Specific trainings required (including vocational training need) for the IWWs to enhance Entrepreneurship Capacity/Skills.
- Project Recommendation for Non-profit Enterprise (NPE).
- Develop a ToR with detail training plan regarding the development of Entrepreneurship Capacity/Skills of IWWs for their respective businesses. This has to at least have two components a) Entrepreneurial Training and b) Vocational Training
- Review Market Survey report prepared for the possible business planning for the established NPE and provide the specific recommendation for the proper business plan by providing the Business Operating Guideline for Non-profit Enterprise (NPE).
- Provide possible innovative recommendations for business initiatives focusing on plastic and textile.
- Provide business recommendations for Paper, Healthcare Waste (HCW), E-Waste and Organic Waste which are the other in line business initiatives of the project.
- Prepare business plan and orientation to the project staffs and beneficiaries for its operation.
Qualification and Experience of the Consultant
The consultant should have the following qualifications and experience:
- Master degree in business management
- Understanding and knowledge of waste-based enterprise
- Not less than 15 years of experience in micro enterprise development/business plan sector and marketing field
- Having ToT on SIYB with experience on training facilitation skills
- Sound analytical and technical competence in the subject matter
- Have conducted similar tasks in the recent past
- Should have knowledge on training facilitation skill on enterprise development sector
